Stanza 1 — the question and the answer. “How do you like to go up in a swing, / Up in the air so blue?” The poet asks you how you like swinging. Then he answers himself: it is the pleasantest thing a child can ever do. Stanza 2 — the long view. “Up in the air and over the wall, / Till I can see so wide,” At the top of the swing the child sees over the garden wall. He sees rivers, trees and cattle, all over the countryside. Stanza 3 — up and down again. “Till I look down on the garden green, / Down on the roof so brown,” Coming down, the child looks at the green garden and the brown roof. Then he flies up once more — “Up in the air and down!” The sound of the poem.
