Can you think of rules that should be followed while you are in a zoo or a forest? For example, (a) We should not feed birds. (b) ……………… (c) ……………… (d) ………………
Answer

Here are three more rules to write in the blanks.

  • (b) We should not shout or play loud music.
  • (c) We should not throw plastic, paper or any other garbage there.
  • (d) We should not pluck leaves and flowers, or break branches.

Other good rules you may write instead:

  • We should stay with our group and on the path.
  • We should not touch or chase any animal.
  • We should not throw stones at animals or at a beehive.
  • We should wear full clothes and shoes, and carry water.
Why: A zoo or a forest is the animals’ home. We are only visitors there. So we must not frighten them or spoil the place where they live.
Tip: Feeding a wild animal is harmful. Our food is wrong for it, and the animal soon stops looking for its own food.

The three that most children miss:

  • Rule 1 — be careful in a new place. We do not know the paths, the water or the animals there, so we must look and listen carefully.
  • Rule 5 — no pets, firearms or weapons. A pet dog frightens the wild animals, and weapons can harm them.
  • Rule 7 — do not damage public utilities. Benches, taps, dustbins, boards and railings are there for everybody. Breaking them spoils the visit for the next people.
