What other shapes can you try? Make spinners using different shapes of card pieces, spin them, and observe what happens.

What to do
Cut cards in different shapes — a triangle, a rectangle, a pentagon, a star, a heart.
Find the middle of each shape and push a toothpick through it.
Spin each one on a table and look at it carefully while it turns.

Sample answer: I made a triangle spinner, a star spinner and a rectangle spinner. Every one of them looked round while it was spinning. The star spinner looked like a circle with a soft edge. The rectangle spinner wobbled a little more than the others.
Why it happens: The shape turns so fast that our eyes cannot follow its corners. We only see the path the corners make, and that path is a circle.
Tip: Fold the card in half twice to find its middle before making the hole. A hole at the middle always spins better.
