Q1.
How were glass bangles made in Ravi’s small workshop?
Answer

Glass bangles were made in four steps in Ravi’s workshop.

  1. Heating. Ravi and his team heated glass in a furnace. A furnace is a very hot oven. The heat makes the hard glass go soft.
  2. Shaping. They then shaped the soft glass carefully into round bangles.
  3. Colouring and decorating. They added beautiful colours and designs to each bangle.
  4. Cooling. Last of all, they cooled the bangles slowly so that each one set perfectly.

The story tells us this in its own words: “First, Ravi and his team would heat glass in a furnace. They would then carefully shape the glass into bangles, adding beautiful colours and designs before cooling them to perfection.”

Why the order matters: Glass can only be bent when it is hot and soft. Once it cools it becomes hard again and will break if you try to bend it. So the shaping must be done while the glass is still hot — and the cooling must be done slowly, or the bangle will crack.
Also worth saying: The story tells us this work “was difficult and needed great skill”. The workshop was a busy place, “filled with the clinking of glass”, where many artisans worked together.
Q2.
Who was Ananya? How did she help Ravi?
Answer

Ananya was Ravi’s daughter. She helped him by bringing modern designs into his traditional bangles.

Who she was: Ananya had just completed her schooling. She was eager to help her father in his work, and she “had an eye for design” — that means she could see at once what looks beautiful and what does not.

How she helped:

  • She added delicate floral patterns — fine designs of flowers and leaves.
  • She added geometric shapes — circles, squares, triangles and lines.
  • She joined these new ideas with the old traditional designs, “combining the old with the new”.
  • Together with her father she planned a special Diwali collection that showed both traditional and modern work.

Her help worked. “The new collection was a big success. The bangles, with their new designs and exciting colours, were loved by the customers.”

Notice this: Ravi was “initially hesitant” — he was not sure at first. He did not say no; he waited, looked, and then agreed. That is why his daughter’s idea could grow.
Q3.
How did the success of the new bangles help the community?
Answer

The success helped the whole community because it brought more work and new jobs to Firozabad.

  1. More work for local artisans. More people wanted the bangles, so more bangles had to be made. “The increased demand for bangles led to more work for local artisans.”
  2. New jobs of other kinds. The bangles had to be packed and sent to other places. “Not only those, more jobs were generated in packing and transportation.”
  3. The workshop kept doing well. “Ravi’s workshop continued to prosper” — to prosper means to do well and grow.
Why one shop can help a whole town: No shop stands alone. When Ravi sold more bangles, he needed more artisans to make them, more boxes to pack them in, and more vehicles to carry them. Each of those needs became somebody’s work and somebody’s pay. That is how the success of one family reached many families.
