What the two pictures show. A woman in a yellow sari sits on the steps of her house. She is holding a round hand fan (a pankha) with a bird painted on it. On the left of the courtyard is a tulsi plant growing in a little red-and-yellow shrine. A boundary wall runs behind her. On the right is the door of the house, with a doormat and a pair of slippers on it. The two pictures look the same at first — but eleven small things have been changed.

The sun in the sky
The sun has long rays shooting out all around it, with little sparkles.
The sun is a plain circle. There are no rays and no sparkles.

The plant is thick and bushy, full of leaves.

How to hunt for differences without missing any:
Do not let your eyes wander. Split each picture into four parts in your mind — top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right.
Compare one part at a time. Look at the top left of the first picture, then the top left of the second. Then move on.
Check the four kinds of change: something missing (the bun, the nose ring, the rays), something a different colour (the fan, the slippers), a different pattern (the sari borders), and a different number (three steps or two).
Tick each one off as you find it, so that you do not count the same difference twice.
If your list is a little different: Some children count the four sari changes (numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9) as one big difference, and then find another one somewhere else. Your teacher will accept any difference you can actually point to in both pictures. What matters is that you can show it, not that your words match mine.
Write it in full sentences. Do not write “fan blue, fan yellow”. Write: In the first picture the hand fan has a blue rim, but in the second picture the rim is yellow. That is how the writing part of this task is marked.
