How to be sure of a pair: for each method ask “which property does it use?” Sieving and handpicking both work on solids, but sieving uses size measured by the sieve while handpicking uses size big enough for fingers. Sedimentation and decantation are two halves of one job — settling first, pouring off second. Evaporation sends water away as vapour; condensation brings it back as liquid.
Tip for the game: make the rod from a stick, tie a thread and a small magnet at the end, and clip the paper fish with iron clips. Notice that the game itself works by magnetic separation!
