Q1.
Look around you for things or people that make you laugh. Write them in the bubbles given below. Share the reasons for your answers with your classmates and the teacher. (Things I Find Funny)
Answer

Fill the bubbles printed on page 59 with short phrases, not full sentences — then be ready to say why each one makes you laugh.

Things I find funnyWhy it makes me laugh
A puppy chasing its own tailIt is working very hard at something impossible
My little brother wearing my father's shoesThe size is completely wrong for the person
Tenali Rama and Birbal storiesA clever trick catches a proud person out
A monkey stealing a packet of biscuitsIt behaves exactly like a naughty child
Someone answering a question with a completely wrong answer, very confidentlyThe confidence does not match the mistake
Tongue twisters said too fastThe words come out jumbled and sound like nonsense
Cartoons like Tom and Jerry, or Chhota BheemImpossible things happen and nobody is hurt
Notice the pattern: almost everything funny comes from something being out of its right place — a shoe on a head, a small child in huge shoes, a serious voice saying nonsense. That is exactly the trick Natalie Joan uses in ‘A Funny Man'.
Sample answer: The thing I find funniest is my grandmother trying to use a mobile phone. She holds it at arm's length, shouts into it as if the person were across a field, and then says the call was very clear. It makes me laugh because she is doing everything with total confidence and getting all of it wrong.
