Q1.
Can we see an image of an object only in a mirror or are there some other ways as well?
Answer

A mirror is not the only way. Images can be formed in several other ways:

  • By a pinhole camera — light through a tiny hole makes an inverted image on a screen (Section 11.7).
  • By any still water surface — a pond, a lake or a bucket of water acts like a mirror and shows reflections.
  • By other polished surfaces — a steel plate, a shiny tile, a car's windscreen, a glass window at night.
  • By lenses — as in a magnifying glass, spectacles or a camera, which you will study in higher classes.
Tip: There is one big difference. A mirror image is erect and cannot be taken on a screen; a pinhole-camera image is upside down and can be taken on a screen.
