NCERT Solutions for Class 4th English Chapter 11 A Journey to the Magical Mountains (story) — Let us Read

This is a story about one whole day. Minam walks into the mountains with her grandfather and comes home changed. Read it in three parts.

Part 1 — Who they are (page 111). Minam is a young girl. She lives in a small village at the foot of the mighty Himalayas. Her grandfather was once a Sherpa, so he knows the mountains well. Minam loves his mountain stories, and the two often go on long walks together.

Part 2 — Going up (pages 112–114). One sunny morning her grandfather says, “Minam, you have become strong, and you can walk for a long distance.” Minam packs rotis with achaar, two water bottles and apples. On the way they see flowers, tall trees and birds she has never heard before. They eat lunch by a small river. Higher up they see yaks. Higher still there is snow, and they make a snowman. At the top of a hill her grandfather points to Mount Everest.

Part 3 — Coming down (page 115). They hear a santoor played by an old man under a tree. They watch mountain goats jumping from rock to rock. Back home, Minam thanks her grandfather. He tells her the mountains teach us about strength, beauty and the wonders of nature, and asks her to respect and protect them. Minam promises to do so.
