A. Imagine you are visiting Maheshwar Fort with your family. Write a short description of what you see and feel as you explore the fort’s balconies and temples.

This is an imagining piece. You were not really there, so you must use the facts from the lesson and add what you would see and feel.
A plan — one sentence for each line:
- Say who went and where. “Last Sunday my family and I went to Maheshwar Fort.”
- Say how you reached it. It stands on a hill, so you climb.
- What you see from the top. The town on one side, the Narmada River on the other.
- The balconies. They hang out with nothing under them. Say what you felt when you looked down.
- The temples. Beautifully designed, close to the fort.
- The statue. 13 feet tall, in front of the palace.
- How you felt at the end. One honest sentence.

Last Sunday my family and I visited Maheshwar Fort. We climbed up the hill and reached its big red walls. From the top I could see the town of Maheshwar on one side and the Narmada River on the other. Boats moved slowly on the water. Then we went to the overhanging balconies. They hang right out of the wall with nothing below them. I held my father’s hand and looked down. I felt a little afraid, but very happy. Near the fort we saw many beautiful temples with carved walls. In front of the palace stands the tall statue of Queen Ahilya Bai. She looked as if she was still watching over her land. I did not want to come home.

Why we add feelings here: A description is not a list. Anyone can write “the fort is on a hill”. Only you can write “I held my father’s hand and looked down”. Those lines make the reader feel that you were really there.
Tip — words you can use: tall, red, cool, quiet, carved, grand, wide, shining. Use two or three of them, not all.
