The fort in the picture is the majestic Maheshwar. It was built long ago by Queen Ahilya Bai, and it is famous for its overhanging balconies. It is also known as Ahilya Fort. Where it stands. Maheshwar is a place in Madhya Pradesh, just 95 kilometres away from Indore. The fort stands on a hill on the banks of the Narmada River. From there the Queen could see her entire kingdom. The queen. Ahilya Bai was a warrior queen of the great Holkar family. She protected her people and built temples, schools and wells. She ruled with kindness and wisdom, and people loved her.
