B. Spot what’s wrong with the picture. Look at the following picture below and spot six errors. 1. .......... 2. .......... 3. .......... 4. .......... 5. .......... 6. ..........The busy street picture printed on page 31 of your book.
Answer
Look at the picture slowly, one part at a time — the sky, then the tree, then the footpath, then the road, then the vehicles. Six things in it are wrong.

What is wrong
Why it is wrong
1
The zebra crossing is drawn as one zigzag line.
A zebra crossing is a set of straight white strips lying side by side, like the one in Rule 1.
2
All three lamps of the traffic light are glowing together.
Only one lamp glows at a time — red, or yellow, or green. If all three glow, no one knows whether to stop or go.
3
Bunches of bananas are hanging from the big banyan tree.
Bananas grow on a banana plant, not on a banyan tree. A banyan tree has hanging roots, not fruit like this.
4
A dog is driving the car.
Only a person who has learnt to drive may drive a vehicle. An animal cannot drive.
5
The boy beside the road is wearing headphones.
Rule 6 says, “avoid using headphones or mobile phones while walking near traffic. These can distract you from traffic sounds.”
6
The aeroplane is flying very low, just over the buildings and the tree.
An aeroplane flies high up in the sky. It comes this low only on a runway, at an airport.
How to look for mistakes in a picture: Go through the picture in parts. Ask each time, “Have I ever seen this in real life?” A zigzag crossing, a lit-up traffic light, bananas on a banyan tree, a dog at a steering wheel and a low aeroplane all fail that test.
Note: The book does not print an answer for this activity. If you have written a different mistake and you can say why it is wrong, show it to your teacher — your answer may also be right.
Check it yourself — these are NOT mistakes: The scooter rider is wearing a helmet, so that is correct. The auto-rickshaw driver and the bus driver are in their seats, and that is correct too. A cat walking on the footpath is an everyday sight.
