Word to keep: scatter. We scatter seeds in a field, and we scatter flower petals on a floor. A sentence of your own: The farmer was scattering seeds in the wet field.
Why not “was feeding” here: That word has already been used in the sentence before. Each option in the box is used only once.

Why sitting: Picture 4 shows them perched on the clothes, holding them down with their weight so that the wind cannot blow them away.

Check it yourself: were sitting is the only option in the box that begins with were. So this blank was waiting for it.
Why the little friends did this: The girl had been feeding them every day. When the wind came, they helped her family in the only way they could.
