Q1.
Find out how much time you take to a) boil milk b) fill water from tap in a bucket
Answer

This is a measuring job. Do it at home with an elder.

  1. Look at the clock and write down the starting time.
  2. Do the work — put the milk on the flame, or open the tap.
  3. Look at the clock again the moment it is done and write down that time.
  4. Count the minutes from the first time to the second time.
Sample answer:
WorkStarted atFinished atTime taken
a) Boiling milk7:10 AM7:15 AM5 minutes
b) Filling a bucket from the tap7:20 AM7:22 AM2 minutes
Tip: Your own answer may be a little different. A thin stream of water fills a bucket slowly, a strong one fills it fast. Write what your clock actually shows.
Q2.
What activities can you do in 5 minutes?
Answer

Five minutes is a short time — the long hand moves across just one big mark.

  • Brush your teeth
  • Drink a glass of milk
  • Fold your bedsheet and make your bed
  • Sharpen all your pencils and pack your bag
  • Water the plants
  • Sing two short songs
  • Do 20 skips with a rope
  • Read one page of a story
Check it yourself: Look at the clock, start any one of these, and check where the long hand has reached when you finish. Has it crossed one big mark?
Why it happens: Each big mark on the clock face stands for 5 minutes, because there are 5 small marks between two big ones.
