Ring the blocks in tens. Two full rings can be made, and 5 blocks are left over.
Two groups of ten are circled; 5 blocks are left.
20 + 5 = 25 2 Tens + 5 Ones = 25
Why it happens: we put 10 ones together and call it 1 ten, because our counting goes in tens.

Count the rods: 9 in the top row and 9 in the bottom row.
9 + 9 = 18 rods = 18 Tens Ring 10 of them: 10 Tens = 1 Hundred 8 rods are left = 8 Tens
After regrouping: 1 flat of hundred and 8 rods of ten.
100 + 80 = 180 1 Hundred + 8 Tens + 0 Ones = 180
Why it happens: ten rods of ten fit together into one flat of a hundred, exactly the way ten ones fit into one rod.
