NCERT Solutions for Class 4th Maths Chapter 4 Thousands Around Us

Updated on 2026-09-19

About this chapter

10 Ones = 1 Ten, 10 Tens = 1 Hundred, and 10 Hundreds = 1 Thousand (1000). The Indian place value chart for this class has four columns: Th, H, T and O. A four-digit number is read Thousands first, then Hundreds, then Tens, then Ones. Expanded form splits a number by place: 3452 = 3000 + 400 + 50 + 2. The digit 0 is a place holder — it keeps the other digits in their own places, as in 4085. To compare two numbers, start at the Thousands place and move right until the digits differ.
