NCERT Solutions for Class 4th The World Around Us Chapter 5 Say ‘No’ to Junk Food — Write
Book page 78 Updated on2026-09-19
Q1.
Can you name a few more junk food items?
Answer
The book already names soft drinks, chips, bread pakoda, burgers, pizza and over-processed packaged food. A few more are:
French fries
Instant noodles
Candy, toffee and lollipops
Packet cakes, pastries and doughnuts
Packaged fruit drinks and cola
Deep-fried namkeen and kurkure-type snacks
Ice-cream from a packet
Why it happens: All of these carry high amounts of oil, salt or sugar and very little of what the body actually needs. That is what makes a food a junk food.
Check it yourself: Read the packet. If oil, salt or sugar is one of the first ingredients on the label, the food belongs on this list.
Q2.
Why do you think we should avoid eating junk food?
Answer
Because junk food is not healthy if we eat it regularly and in large quantities. That is exactly how the book puts it on page 78.
It has too much oil, salt and sugar, and very little of the goodness our body needs.
It fills the stomach, so we stop feeling hungry for dal, roti, fruits and vegetables.
Over-processed packaged food has been kept for a long time, so it is not fresh.
Eating it often can make us gain weight and feel tired.
Why it happens: Our body is still growing. It needs foods from all three groups every day. A food that gives only oil, salt and sugar does not do any of those three jobs.
Tip: The book does not say these foods are forbidden. It says fresh home-cooked food is better than over-processed or packaged food. So keep junk food for a rare treat, not for every day.
Q3.
List the junk food items that you will avoid.
Answer
Make your own promise list. Choose the junk foods you eat most often, and write what you will eat in their place.
Sample answer:
I will avoid
I will eat instead
Cold drinks
Lemon water, buttermilk or plain water
Chips and packet namkeen
Roasted chana, peanuts or sprouts
Burger and pizza from a shop
Home-made stuffed roti or poha
Toffees and candies
Jaggery, dates or a ripe fruit
Instant noodles
Upma or idli with sambhar
Why it happens: A swap works better than a “no”. When a healthy food takes the place of the junk food, the hunger is still satisfied.
Try This: Stick your list on the fridge at home and tick the days you kept it.
