Why it works: the place and the type of region must match. Pine trees grow in the mountains, sand dunes are in a desert, beaches are on the coast and big fields are in the plains.
Tip: if you stayed at home in the holidays, write about a place near your house — a river, a hill, a market or a temple. That is a real answer too.

Which type of place do you find interesting?
Answer

Choose one of the four regions — mountains, plains, coastal region or desert — and give a reason for your choice.

A good answer has two parts: the name of the region, and one thing there that you like.

Sample answer: I find the mountains most interesting. The peaks are covered with snow and the air is cool and clean. I would like to see tall pine trees and ride a yak, as Nayan did in Sikkim.

Try This: write a second answer for a different region. Both answers can be correct, because this question asks what you like.

What similarities and differences do you find in the place you visited, and those visited by your friends?
Answer

Put the places side by side and look for what is the same and what is different.

  • Similarities: every place has people, homes, food, work, festivals and a school. People everywhere help one another.
  • Differences: the land is different. So the trees, the animals, the houses, the clothes and the food are different too.

Sample answer: I went to Puri and my friend went to Jaisalmer. In both places people live in villages, sell things in markets and enjoy festivals. But Puri has the sea, palm trees and fish curry, while Jaisalmer has sand dunes, cactus and dal-bati-churma. Houses in Puri have sloping roofs for the rain; houses in Jaisalmer have tankas to store water.

Why it happens: people build and eat and dress to suit the land and the weather around them. That is why the same country has so many different ways of living.
