To associate means to connect in your mind. When you hear a word, other words come into your head at once. Those are the words you write.

• Joy — a festival is a happy time.
• Sweets — every Indian festival brings sweets into the house.
• Family — festivals are the days when everybody comes home.

Bangle — glass, colourful, wrist.

• Glass — the bangles in our story are made of glass, in Firozabad.
• Colourful — they come “from deep reds and blues to soft pastels”.
• Wrist — that is where a bangle is worn.

Factory — machines, workers, chimney.

• Machines — a factory is full of machines that do work quickly.
• Workers — many people work together there.
• Chimney — the tall pipe that lets the smoke out.

Friend — sharing, trust, play.

• Sharing — friends share tiffin, books and secrets.
• Trust — you can tell a friend something and know it is safe.
• Play — most friendships begin in the playground.

School — teacher, classroom, books.

• Teacher — the person who helps us learn.
• Classroom — the room where we sit and study.
• Books — what we read and write in every day.
