Listen to your teacher. Follow the instructions and draw accordingly in the space provided below.
• Draw a few big dry leaves at the centre with no gap between the leaves. Draw a ball in the middle of the leaves.
• Draw a few twigs here and there.
• Colour the leaves yellow and brown. Colour the twigs brown.
• Now you have found the ball.
Answer
Your teacher will read the four instructions aloud, one at a time. You draw only what you hear — so listen right to the end of each instruction before your pencil touches the paper.
Do it in this order:
Step 1. In the middle of the box, draw a few big dry leaves. Make them touch each other, with no gap between them — they are lying in a heap, exactly as in the story.
Step 2. In the middle of those leaves, draw a ball — a plain round circle. This is Gopi’s hockey ball.
Step 3. Draw a few twigs here and there around the leaves. A twig is a thin, small branch. Draw them as short lines with tiny side lines.
Step 4. Colour the leaves yellow and brown — some leaves yellow, some brown, because dry leaves are not all the same colour. Colour the twigs brown.
Step 5. Leave the ball white. The story says, “There was a white ball on the heap.”
Sample answer — your drawing should look something like this:
The leaves touch one another with no gap. The ball sits in the middle and stays white. The twigs are brown and are scattered here and there.
What this task is really teaching: Listening is not the same as hearing. Here you must catch the exact words — “big”, “no gap”, “in the middle”, “here and there”, “yellow and brown”. Miss one word and your picture will be different from the one your teacher described.
Tip: Draw very lightly with a pencil first. Colour only after all four instructions have been read out. That way you can fix a mistake before it is coloured in.
