In the following circles, the end points of 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8 turns are shown. Draw arrows to show the starting points.
Answer

Each circle already shows the red end arrow, and the green dashed circle shows that the turn was made clockwise. So to find the start, turn backwards — anti-clockwise — by the amount written above the circle.

Here is the method, in three steps.

  1. Read the size of the turn written above the circle: 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8.
  2. Change it into clock hours. A full turn is 12 hours, so 1/2 turn = 6 hours, 1/4 turn = 3 hours, 1/8 turn = 1 and a half hours.
  3. From the red arrow, count back that many hours. Draw the arrow there. That is the start.

Why it happens: A turn joins a start to an end. If you know the end and the size of the turn, you can go the other way round to get back to the start — exactly like walking back the same number of steps you came forward.
Check it yourself: Put your pencil on the start arrow and sweep it clockwise by the given turn. It must land on the red arrow. If it does not, count again.
