Q1.
A lorry has 28 litres of fuel in its tank. An additional 75 litres is filled. What is the total quantity of fuel in the lorry?
Answer
The lorry now has 103 litres of fuel.
The tank already had 28 l. Another 75 l was poured in. Fuel is being put together, so we add.
Total = 28 l + 75 l
Add column by column, starting from the ones.
Ones: 8 + 5 = 13. That is 1 ten and 3 ones. Write 3 in the ones place and carry the 1 ten.
Tens: 2 + 7 = 9, and the carried 1 makes 10. That is 1 hundred and 0 tens. Write 0 in the tens place and carry the 1 hundred.
Hundreds: only the carried 1. Write 1.

Total fuel = 103 litres
Check it yourself: 103 − 75 = 28, which is what the tank had at the start. So the answer is right.
Q2.
Do you remember how to add two numbers using place value of numbers?
Answer
Yes. Give every digit its own column, then add one column at a time from the right.
Write the numbers one under the other. Ones must sit under ones, tens under tens, hundreds under hundreds.
Start with the ones column, on the far right.
If a column adds up to 9 or less, just write the answer below the line.
If a column adds up to 10 or more, keep only the ones digit there and regroup — carry the ten to the next column on the left.
Move left, one column at a time, until every column is done.
Why we regroup: A place can only hold the digits 0 to 9. The moment ten ones collect together, they become one ten, and a ten has to live in the tens column. That is all a carry is — ten small things swapped for one bigger thing.
