The table gives the distance of every station from Dibrugarh. Kanniyakumari is the last station, so its distance is the whole journey.
Kanniyakumari is station number 65 Distance from Dibrugarh = 4,187 km
Why you do not add up the rows: Each number in the table is already measured from Dibrugarh, not from the station above it. If you added them you would count the same track many times over.

Read both distances from the table. Vijayawada JN is 2,800 km from Dibrugarh. Jalpaiguri Road is 983 km from Dibrugarh.
Subtract the smaller from the bigger. The gap between two stations is the difference of their distances.
Both distances start at Dibrugarh, so the gap between the two stations is the difference.
Check it yourself: Add back. 983 + 1,817 = 2,800 ✓ That is Vijayawada's distance, so the subtraction was right.

Why it happens: Both stations lie on the same track, one after the other. The train has already run 2,450 km when it reaches Visakhapatnam, and 2,800 km when it reaches Vijayawada. The extra running in between is 350 km.

Tip: You do not always have to work out the exact numbers. Dimapur and Guwahati are both in the north-east, only five stations apart.
