Q1.
Can you list three things you can do to protect the water bodies near you? 1. ____ 2. ____ 3. ____
Answer
Three things a Class 5 student can really do:
- Never throw any waste into the water or on its bank. Carry your wrapper home or put it in a bin. Ask your friends to do the same.
- Save water at home and at school, so less has to be taken out of the river. Turn the tap off while brushing, use a mug instead of a running tap, and get leaking taps repaired with an adult's help.
- Join or start a cleaning and tree-planting drive at the pond or the river bank near you, with your class and a teacher — pick up the plastic, and plant trees along the bank.
Three more you can add to your list:
- Use less soap and detergent, and choose eco-friendly ones, so less of it reaches the water.
- Do not put puja flowers, oil, ash or old idols into the river; use the collection bin kept for them.
- Make a small painted sign at the water body — “Please do not throw waste here” — and tell younger children why.
Why small actions are worth it: A river is not spoiled by one person's bucket of waste. It is spoiled by thousands of small acts every day. So it can also be saved the same way — by thousands of small good acts every day. Your one wrapper matters exactly as much as anyone else's.
Did you know? The Namami Gange programme is helping clean the Ganga so that it stays healthy for people, fish and birds. Big programmes like this only work if ordinary people stop adding waste in the first place.
