Reynard: Good morning, Mr Raven! You seem to be awake so early!
(Mr Raven just nods his head)
Reynard: Oh, Mr Raven, you look wonderful this morning. What a handsome bird you are!
(Mr Raven sits up straight and turns his head to one side, pleased)
Reynard: And such feathers! I have walked through every corner of these woods, and I have never seen feathers that shine like yours.
(Mr Raven spreads one wing slowly so that the Fox can admire it, still holding the bread tightly)
Reynard: There is only one thing I do not know, Sir Raven — your voice. If a bird as fine as you could sing, the birds of these woods would surely call you their King.
(Mr Raven puffs out his chest and looks around to see who is listening)
Reynard: Come now, just one little song. Only one!
(Mr Raven closes his eyes, lifts his head high and opens his beak wide — and the bread drops straight down)
Reynard: (catching the bread and laughing) Ha-ha! Thank you for the song, Sir Raven, and thank you even more for the breakfast! Remember this — ignore sweet words that make you glow. Pride, my friend, is rather unwise!
(Mr Raven looks at his empty beak, hangs his head, and flies away without a sound)
