- My cycle groaned as it climbed the hill.

- Hunger knocked on the door at exactly one o’clock.
How to build a personification of your own: take a lifeless thing (river, fan, exam paper, sun) and give it a human verb (whisper, quarrel, wait, forgive, run away). River + whisper = “The river whispered to the stones all night.” That is all there is to it.
