Q1.
Share a kite-flying experience with your classmates. If you have not flown a kite yet, share an experience of watching kites fly. Give details—Where? When? Why? How? Speak in complete sentences.
Answer

Answer the four question words in order, one or two sentences each, and finish with how you felt.

QuestionWhat to say
Where?The place — a terrace, a field, a riverbank, your school ground.
When? The day and time — Makar Sankranti, Independence Day, a windy Sunday evening.
Why?The reason — a festival, a competition, a holiday with cousins.
How?The way it happened — who held the reel, how the kite rose, what went wrong or right.
Sample answer: Last Makar Sankranti I flew a kite from the terrace of my grandmother's house in Jaipur. We went up at about eight in the morning, because the wind is best then and the whole family was already on the roof. My cousin held the reel and I ran to the far corner with the kite and let it go when he shouted. It dipped once towards the neighbour's tank, and then the wind caught it and it climbed higher than the water tank. We kept it up for nearly an hour before another kite cut our thread. Even then I was not sad, because I had learnt how to feel the pull of the wind on the line.
Speaking tips: tell it in order, use past tense verbs (went, held, ran, climbed), and use one or two of the movement words from page 148 — soared, dived, glided.
