About her: Gaidinliu led an armed uprising against the British in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam. She joined the Heraka movement at thirteen, was arrested at sixteen, and spent fifteen years — 1932 to 1947 — in prisons across the North-East. It was the then Prime Minister who called her the ‘Daughter of the Hills' and gave her the title ‘Rani' for her courage. She returned to her birthplace in 1991 and died there. The Birsa Munda Award was conferred on her posthumously.
