A Homage to Our Brave Soldiers is made of two letters. In the first, Soumya of Bengaluru writes to her friend Ananda in Chandigarh about a school trip to the National War Memorial in New Delhi — its 40 acres near India Gate, its 29,000 tablets bearing more than 26,000 names, and the citations of Lance Naik Albert Ekka (PVC) and Major Padmapani Acharya (MVC) . The memorial is built as four concentric circles — Amar Chakra (Circle of Immortality, with the Amar Jawan Jyoti in a 15-metre obelisk), Veerta Chakra (Circle of Bravery, six bronze murals), Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice, granite tablets set like a chakravyuh ) and Raksha Chakra (Circle of Protection, a row of trees).
