Q1.
Choose a number for y. How close to one lakh is the number of days in y years, for the y of your choice?
Answer

Take y = 274 — it is the value that lands almost exactly on one lakh.

Days in y years = 365 × y
365 × 274 = 365 × 200 + 365 × 74
= 73,000 + 27,010
= 1,00,010 days
1,00,010 − 1,00,000 = only 10 days more than a lakh

A few other choices:

y (years)Days = 365 × yCompared with 1,00,000
5018,25081,750 less
10036,50063,500 less
20073,00027,000 less
2741,00,010only 10 more
3001,09,5009,500 more
Why it happens: 1,00,000 ÷ 365 ≈ 273.97. So a little under 274 years contains one lakh days. This is exactly Roxie's point on page 4 — “living 1 lakh days would mean living for 274 years”.
