How does food get transported to other parts of a plant?

Through another set of thin tube-like structures called the phloem.
Leaves are the primary site for photosynthesis, so food is made there. The phloem carries this food from the leaves to all parts of the plant — upward to growing buds and flowers, and downward to the stem and roots. The transported food may also be stored in other parts, such as seeds and roots.
