Q1.
How many 500 ml bottles will fill a 1 l bottle?
Answer
1 l bottle500 ml500 ml
Two 500 ml bottles being emptied into one 1 l bottle.
500 ml + 500 ml = 1000 ml
1000 ml = 1 l
So 500 ml = ½ l

2 bottles of 500 ml will fill a 1 l bottle.

Why it happens: 500 is half of 1000. Two halves make one whole, so two 500 ml bottles make exactly 1 litre.
Tip: This is the same idea as 500 g being half of 1 kg.
Q2.
How many 250 ml bottles will fill a 1 l bottle?
Answer
1 l bottle250 ml250 ml250 ml250 ml
Four 250 ml bottles beside one 1 l bottle.
250 ml + 250 ml + 250 ml + 250 ml = 1000 ml
1000 ml = 1 l
So 250 ml = ¼ l

4 bottles of 250 ml will fill a 1 l bottle.

Why it happens: 250 is a quarter of 1000. Four quarters make one whole, so four 250 ml bottles fill the 1 litre bottle exactly.
Tip: A 250 ml bottle is about one drinking glass. Four glasses of water make 1 litre.
Q3.
How many 100 ml bottles will fill a 1 l bottle?
Answer
1 l bottle100 ml100 ml100 ml100 ml100 ml
A 100 ml bottle being poured into the 1 l bottle on page 123.

Count in hundreds till you reach 1000.

100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000
1000 ml = 1 l
So 100 ml is one-tenth of 1 l

10 bottles of 100 ml will fill a 1 l bottle.

Why it happens: Ten hundreds make one thousand. So ten pourings of 100 ml fill the litre bottle.
Tip: This matches the weight picture on page 117 — ten packets of 100 g made 1 kg.
