From these three pictures we learn:
2 packets of 500 g = 1000 g = 1 kg, so 500 g = half of 1 kg 4 packets of 250 g = 1000 g = 1 kg, so 250 g = one-fourth of 1 kg 10 packets of 100 g = 1000 g = 1 kg, so 100 g = one-tenth of 1 kg
Why it happens: The two pans stay level only when both sides carry the same weight. So whatever we put on the right pan must add up to exactly 1000 g.
Tip: Try it in class. Take a 1 kg packet and see how many 500 g, 250 g and 100 g packets of sugar, poha or daal you need to balance it.
