Q1.
Do you know the different types of weighing machines used to weigh different objects?
Answer
Yes. Different jobs need different machines.
| Weighing machine | Where we see it | What it weighs |
|---|---|---|
| Pan balance (tarazu) | Vegetable and grocery shops | Vegetables, daal, rice |
| Beam balance with weights | Grain shops | Sacks of grain, using 1 kg and 5 kg weights |
| Digital kitchen scale | Homes and bakeries | Small amounts like 100 g of flour |
| Bathroom weighing machine | Homes, schools, clinics | The weight of a person |
| Big platform weighing machine | Warehouses and mandis | Heavy sacks and boxes |
Why it happens: A machine must be able to feel the weight it is given. A kitchen scale would break under a sack of grain, and a platform machine would not even notice 10 g of haldi.
Tip: Look at the pictures on page 120 and try to name each machine you have seen in your own market.
