Q1.
Look at the picture of Chandan's village. What do you see in the picture? Describe below.
POST OFFICE
Chandan’s village, redrawn from the picture on page 3 of the book.
Answer

The picture shows Chandan's village — its houses, its road, its pond and its people, all in one place.

Look at the picture in three rounds. It is easier that way.

  1. Places and buildings: houses with sloping roofs, a water tank standing on tall legs, a post office, a small shop with a coloured awning, a road going through the village, a pond and a well.
  2. People: a woman carrying a basket on her head, a boy riding a bicycle with sacks tied behind, children playing with a ball, and a car going down the road.
  3. Nature and animals: two big trees, a white cow grazing near the pond, and the big banyan tree with its long roots hanging down.

Sample answer: I see Chandan's village. On one side there is a pond, and a white cow is grazing beside it. Two big trees stand at the two ends of the village. One of them is a banyan tree, and its long roots hang down to the ground. There are houses with sloping roofs, a tall water tank, a post office and a small shop. A road goes through the middle of the village. A red car is on the road, and a boy is riding a bicycle with sacks on it. A woman is walking with a basket on her head. Two children are playing with a ball. On one side there is a well with a bucket hanging from a pulley.

Why this matters: Every place in the picture is used by many people, not by one family alone. The people and these shared places together make Chandan's community.
Tip: Chandan tells us two more things on page 3 that the picture also shows — the big playground near his house, and the banyan tree at the corner of the playground where the elders gather to talk.
