Find out a ‘food thali’ from your region, and list its food items.
Answer

Ask at home, or look at what is served at a family meal on a festival day. Write every item that goes on the plate.

Step 1 — Name your region or state.
Step 2 — List the main dish, the dal or curry, the vegetable, the bread or rice.
Step 3 — Add the small things: curd, salad, pickle, papad, chutney, sweet.
Step 4 — Mark which food group each item belongs to.

Sample answer — a Rajasthani thali:

Why it happens: A thali is a whole meal on one plate. Each region uses what grows there, which is why the thalis of India taste so different from one another.
Did you know? A thali also gives many of the six tastes at once — sweet from the churma, salty from the dal, pungent from the chilli and sour from the pickle.
