Every land gives something, and every land gives trouble too. The chapter showed this clearly. Tip: the chapter does not name a festival for the plains or the desert. Write one from your own area instead, and say which region it belongs to.

What the table shows: read any one row across and you will see the same idea again and again. The land and the weather change, so the trees, the animals, the houses, the clothes and the food change with them.

Design and draw a landform by combining your favourite features from mountains, plains, coasts, and deserts.

Answer

You are making an imaginary land of your own, using one or two favourite things from each of the four regions.

Draw the land first: a snowy peak at the back, flat fields in the middle, sand dunes on one side and a sea with a beach in front.
Add one favourite feature from each region. Choose from what the chapter showed you.
Draw the people, their houses and their animals.
Give your land a name and label every feature.

Give a reason for each feature you chose. A good reason says what the feature does or why you like it.

Sample answer:

I chose the snowy peak and pine trees because I have never seen snow and the air there is cool and clean.
I chose the flat fields because crops grow well on flat, fertile land, so my land will always have food.
I chose the beach with palm trees because I love collecting sea shells and watching fishing boats.
I chose the sand dunes with a camel because camel rides look exciting and the dunes are beautiful at sunset.

Why the question is asked: it makes you notice that you did not choose at random. You picked things because of what they give — food, water, beauty, coolness or fun.

(b) How does each feature benefit people, animals or plants?

Take each feature and say who it helps.
