Q1.
1. 506 ÷ 5
Answer

506 ÷ 5 = 101, remainder 1.

Split 506 = 500 + 6
500 ÷ 5 = 100
6 ÷ 5 = 1 with 1 left over
Quotient = 100 + 1 = 101, Remainder = 1
Check: N = D × Q + R → 5 × 101 + 1 = 505 + 1 = 506 ✓
Q2.
2. 918 ÷ 8
Answer

918 ÷ 8 = 114, remainder 6.

       H T O
8) 918 ( 1  1  4
9 Hundreds ÷ 8 = 1 Hundred, 1 Hundred left
1 H + 1 T = 11 Tens ÷ 8 = 1 Ten, 3 Tens left
3 T + 8 O = 38 Ones ÷ 8 = 4 Ones, 6 left

Quotient = 114, Remainder = 6
Check: 8 × 114 + 6 = 912 + 6 = 918 ✓
Q3.
3. 8,126 ÷ 7
Answer

8,126 ÷ 7 = 1,160, remainder 6.

7) 8126 ( 1000 + 100 + 60
 −7000 → 1126  (7 × 1000)
  −700 →  426  (7 × 100)
  −420 →    6  (7 × 60)

Quotient = 1000 + 100 + 60 = 1,160, Remainder = 6
Check: 7 × 1160 + 6 = 8,120 + 6 = 8,126 ✓  Notice the 0 in the Ones place of the quotient — do not drop it.
Q4.
4. 9,324 ÷ 4
Answer

9,324 ÷ 4 = 2,331, remainder 0.

Split 9324 = 8000 + 1200 + 120 + 4
8000 ÷ 4 = 2000
1200 ÷ 4 = 300
120 ÷ 4 = 30
4 ÷ 4 = 1
2000 + 300 + 30 + 1 = 2,331, Remainder = 0
Check by a second route: Halve twice — 9324 → 4662 → 2331. Same answer ✓  And 4 × 2,331 = 9,324 ✓
Q5.
5. 876 ÷ 6
Answer

876 ÷ 6 = 146, remainder 0.

Split 876 = 600 + 240 + 36
600 ÷ 6 = 100
240 ÷ 6 = 40
36 ÷ 6 = 6
100 + 40 + 6 = 146, Remainder = 0
Check: 6 × 146 = 876 ✓
Q6.
6. 7,008 ÷ 3
Answer

7,008 ÷ 3 = 2,336, remainder 0.

        Th H T O
3) 7008 (  2  3  3  6
7 Th ÷ 3 = 2 Th, 1 Th left
1 Th + 0 H = 10 Hundreds ÷ 3 = 3 H, 1 H left
1 H + 0 T = 10 Tens ÷ 3 = 3 T, 1 T left
1 T + 8 O = 18 Ones ÷ 3 = 6 O, nothing left

Quotient = 2,336, Remainder = 0
Check: 3 × 2,336 = 7,008 ✓
Q7.
7. 934 ÷ 12
Answer

934 ÷ 12 = 77, remainder 10.

12) 934 ( 70 + 7
 −840 → 94  (12 × 70)
  −84 → 10  (12 × 7)

Quotient = 70 + 7 = 77, Remainder = 10
Check: 12 × 77 + 10 = 924 + 10 = 934 ✓  And 10 is smaller than 12 ✓
Q8.
8. 829 ÷ 23
Answer

829 ÷ 23 = 36, remainder 1.

23) 829 ( 30 + 6
 −690 → 139  (23 × 30)
 −138 →   1  (23 × 6)

Quotient = 30 + 6 = 36, Remainder = 1
Check: 23 × 36 + 1 = 828 + 1 = 829 ✓
Q9.
9. 705 ÷ 18
Answer

705 ÷ 18 = 39, remainder 3.

18) 705 ( 30 + 9
 −540 → 165  (18 × 30)
 −162 →   3  (18 × 9)

Quotient = 30 + 9 = 39, Remainder = 3
Check: 18 × 39 + 3 = 702 + 3 = 705 ✓
Q10.
10. 8,704 ÷ 32
Answer

8,704 ÷ 32 = 272, remainder 0.

32) 8704 ( 200 + 70 + 2
 −6400 → 2304  (32 × 200)
 −2240 →   64  (32 × 70)
   −64 →    0  (32 × 2)

Quotient = 200 + 70 + 2 = 272, Remainder = 0
Check by a second route: 32 is 4 × 8. Divide by 4 first: 8704 ÷ 4 = 2176. Then by 8: 2176 ÷ 8 = 272. Same answer ✓  And 32 × 272 = 8,704 ✓
Q11.
11. 6,790 ÷ 45
Answer

6,790 ÷ 45 = 150, remainder 40.

45) 6790 ( 100 + 50
 −4500 → 2290  (45 × 100)
 −2250 →   40  (45 × 50)

40 is smaller than 45, so we stop.
Quotient = 100 + 50 = 150, Remainder = 40
Check: 45 × 150 + 40 = 6,750 + 40 = 6,790 ✓  A remainder can be large — it only has to be smaller than the divisor.
Q12.
12. 5,074 ÷ 21
Answer

5,074 ÷ 21 = 241, remainder 13.

21) 5074 ( 200 + 40 + 1
 −4200 → 874  (21 × 200)
  −840 →  34  (21 × 40)
   −21 →  13  (21 × 1)

Quotient = 200 + 40 + 1 = 241, Remainder = 13
Check: 21 × 241 + 13 = 5,061 + 13 = 5,074 ✓
