Bharat has always been known worldwide as a land of wise and heroic individuals.
The very first line of the passage says so: “Bharat has been known worldwide as a land of wise and heroic individuals.” In other words, our country is famous for two kinds of greatness — the wisdom of its thinkers, saints and teachers, and the bravery of its warriors and soldiers.
Look at the picture on page 131: the artist has drawn exactly these two qualities side by side — a soldier and a police officer for heroism, and a sage with a long white beard for wisdom.

What is attractive about Bharat?

Its rich and diverse culture is what makes Bharat attractive.
The passage says, “Its rich and diverse culture has attracted numerous travellers since ancient times.” People from other lands have been coming here for hundreds of years to see our art, crafts, festivals, languages, temples and ways of life.
Why ‘diverse’ matters: Bharat is attractive not because everything here is the same, but because everything here is different — a new language, a new dress, a new sweet and a new festival every few hundred kilometres. That variety is the attraction.

What is special about the fact that the people live here in unison?

What is special is that the people of Bharat present to the world unity in diversity.
The passage says, “The people here live in unison, presenting to the world unity in diversity.” Indians follow many religions, speak many languages and wear many kinds of clothes, yet they live together in peace as one nation. Very few countries in the world are so different inside and still so united.
Tip: ‘In unison’ means ‘together, as one’. When a whole class sings the National Anthem together, they are singing in unison.
