Fold the strip into two equal parts and then open up the strip again. Taking the strip to be one unit in length, what are the lengths of the two new parts of the strip created by the crease?
Answer

The crease cuts the one-unit strip into 2 equal parts.

Each part = 1 ÷ 2 = 1/2 unit
Check: 1/2 + 1/2 = 2/2 = 1 unit

Answer: both parts are 12 unit long.

Q2.
What will you get if you fold the previously-folded strip again into two equal parts?
Answer

Each half is folded into two, so the strip now has 4 equal parts and each part is 14 unit.

2 times 1/4 = 2/4
3 times 1/4 = 3/4
4 times 1/4 = 4/4 = 1
Why: folding into two doubles the number of parts each time — 1 → 2 → 4 → 8 — so the fractional unit becomes half as long at every fold.

One more fold gives 8 equal parts, so the fractional unit is now 18.
