Observe the features of all the stages of a frog shown in Fig. 10.7. How will you decide the sequence of the given stages (A, B, C, D, E, F)? Some of the stages show distinct changes in their initial and final shapes. Record these changes in Table 10.5.

How to decide the sequence: arrange the stages by how much of the frog's body has been built — start with the one that has no body parts at all and end with the one that has them all.
- Find the stage with only eggs — that must be first.
- Find the one where the eggs have a dark shape developing inside — that comes next.
- Then look for a tail but no legs, then tail with two legs, then tail with four legs, and finally four legs and no tail.
- Use the clue printed in the table: D is similar to C but it has two legs. So C must come before D.

Correct sequence: A → F → C → D → B → E
Tip: the two easiest anchors are A (only eggs, so first) and E (a complete adult, so last). Fix those two, and the middle four fall into place by counting legs.
