Answer

Imran joined the group in the end.

The children were already talking about Lagori. Nidhi had just begun to explain the game. Then the book says, (Imran joins them).

Nidhi was happy to see him. She said, “Look! Imran is here. He is also a champion of this game. He will explain.”

Why this matters in the story: Nidhi could only tell Prakash the name of the game. Imran is a champion, so he could tell him the rules — how the stones are stacked, how the ball is thrown and where the boundary is.

2. How many and what kind of stones are used in this game?

Answer

Seven stones are used, and they are flat stones.

Nidhi says, “Lagori is actually a game of seven stones.” Imran then says, “In Lagori the seven flat stones are stacked one above the other.”

The pile of seven flat stones used in Lagori, with the ball lying beside it, as the book draws it on page 74. The biggest stone goes at the bottom and the smallest on top.

Why the stones must be flat: A round stone would roll away. A flat stone has a level top, so the next stone sits still on it. That is how seven stones can be piled up one above the other without falling.

Tip: The biggest flat stone goes at the bottom and the smallest at the top. A wide bottom keeps the whole pile steady.

3. In which state of India is the game of lagori is also known as Satoliya?

Answer

In Rajasthan.

When Imran finished explaining the game, Prakash said, “Oh! Okay, you mean Satoliya.” Deepa asked what Satoliya was, and Prakash said, “In Rajasthan, we call this game Satoliya.”

Guneet then said it clearly: “in our Sundarpur village, we call it Lagori, and in Rajasthan, it is called as Satoliya.”

Why one game has two names: The same game is played all over our country. Each place gives it a name in its own language. The game does not change — only the name does.

A slip in the book: The printed question reads “In which state of India is the game of lagori is also known as Satoliya?” The word is has been typed twice. It should read, “In which state of India is the game of Lagori also known as Satoliya?” — and Lagori should begin with a capital L.

4. What is the name of the opponent team of Sundarpur Tigers?

Answer

The ‘Green Warriors’. They come from the village near Sundarpur.

Ravi tells Prakash, “we are playing this match with the ‘Green Warriors’ team from the nearby village.”
