  1. Trace the empty hexagon or square from the book.
  2. Take triangles and rhombuses from your rangometry kit.
  3. Fill the shape completely — no gaps and no overlaps.
  4. Colour the pieces, then draw round them in your notebook.

Sample answer: I filled one hexagon with 6 triangles and coloured them orange and yellow by turns. I filled the square with 8 triangles, blue and yellow by turns.

Tip: A hexagon is filled neatly by 6 triangles, or by 3 rhombuses, or by 2 trapeziums and 2 triangles.

Why it happens: These shapes have equal sides that match each other, so they sit together leaving no gaps.

Which of the tiles are symmetrical? Draw the lines of symmetry (if any).

A tile is symmetrical only if the colours match on both sides of the fold, not just the shapes.

Only the second tile is symmetrical. Its three lines run from the middle of one side to the middle of the opposite side.

Sample answer: My hexagon with orange and yellow triangles by turns has 3 lines of symmetry, each one running from a corner to the opposite corner.

Why it happens: A fold must match colour to colour. In a pinwheel each triangle leans the same way round the centre, so folding puts a blue piece on a yellow piece — there is no line of symmetry.
Check it yourself: Colour the same hexagon in only one colour. Now it has 6 lines of symmetry, because only the shapes have to match.
Q4.
Make more tiles by joining two or more shapes. Trace them in your notebook to create paths with no gaps or overlaps.

Join two or three cutouts into one bigger tile, then repeat that tile to make a path.

  1. Join 2 triangles along one side — you get a rhombus.
  2. Join 3 triangles in a row — you get a long trapezium.
  3. Trace your new tile again and again along a line in your notebook.
  4. Check after every tile: no gap, no overlap.

Sample answer: I joined 2 triangles into a rhombus and traced it 10 times to make a garden path.

Why it happens: When two shapes are joined along equal sides, the new tile still has straight matching edges, so copies of it fit together.
