Q1.
In Scene 4, can Mini see all the children playing the game? Discuss.Scene 4 — Mini stands at the corner of the hut wall and looks out at the open ground.
Answer
Scene 4 — Mini at the corner of the hut wall. The dotted lines show where she is looking.
No, Mini cannot see all the children.
Mini stands at the corner of the hut wall and looks out.
Bholu is walking on the open ground in front of her → she can see him.
Jagat is sitting on the tree in front of her → she can see him.
Rani is not in front of her at all → she cannot see Rani.
So Mini sees only 2 of her three friends.
Why it happens: We can see only the part of a place that is in front of our eyes. The hut wall covers everything on the other side of it.
Q2.
Mini, Bholu, and Rani draw the same brick. Why are their drawings of the same brick different? Discuss. The same brick at the top, and the three drawings the children made of it.
Answer
The same brick at the top, and the three drawings the children made of it.
Because the three children are standing at three different places around the brick.
Bholu stands above the brick → he sees the top face with the 7777 marks.
Mini stands in front → she sees the long flat face.
Rani stands at one side → she sees the small end face.
The brick did not change. Only their place changed.
Why it happens: Our eyes can see only the face that is turned towards us. A brick has faces of different sizes, so each face gives a different drawing.
The same tree photographed by two children standing in two different places.
Did you know? The same thing happened with the tree on this page. From the top Bholu’s photo shows only a round green patch of leaves. From the front Jagat’s photo shows the trunk and the branches too.
Q3.
Whose drawing shows the following views? (The top view / The front view / The side view)The same brick at the top, and the three drawings the children made of it.
View of the Brick drawing
Name of the child
The top view
The front view
The side view
Answer
The same brick at the top, and the three drawings the children made of it.
Look at what each drawing shows, then fill the table.
View of the Brick drawing
Name of the child
The top view
Bholu
The front view
Mini
The side view
Rani
Bholu’s drawing has the 7777 marks. Those marks are made on the top of a brick. → top view
Mini’s drawing is the longest and lowest. That is the long face you see from the front. → front view
Rani’s drawing is the shortest. That is the small end face you see from one side. → side view
Why it happens: A brick is long, a little wide and thin. So the front face is long, the side face is short and only the top face carries the mould marks.
