Q1.
BP Girl’s school has decided to give all its students two pencils on the first day of school. It has 465 students. How many pencils does the school need to buy?
Answer

The school needs to buy 930 pencils.

465 students × 2 pencils each
465 = 400 + 60 + 5
400 × 2 = 800
60 × 2 = 120
5 × 2 = 10
800 + 120 + 10 = 930 pencils
Why it happens: Every student gets the same 2 pencils, so this is 465 equal groups of 2 — which is just doubling 465.
Q2.
234 children of a school have decided to organise a school mela. Each child contributes ₹5 for the organisation of the mela. How much money do they collect?
Answer

They collect ₹1170.

234 children × ₹5 each
234 = 200 + 30 + 4
200 × 5 = ₹1000
30 × 5 = ₹150
4 × 5 = ₹20
1000 + 150 + 20 = ₹1170
Check it yourself: 234 × 5 is half of 234 × 10. 234 × 10 = 2340, and half of 2340 is 1170.
