So the smallest 3-digit number the rabbit lands on is 102.
102 = 17 sixes, so the rabbit jumped 17 times.

These numbers are multiples of 6.

Why it happens: The rabbit can land only on numbers made of whole groups of 6. 100 is not made of whole 6s, so the rabbit steps over it to 102.

What we observe: the bigger the jump, the fewer the jumps needed.

Why it happens: Both animals cover the same 48 steps. The rabbit uses 8 groups of 6 and the kangaroo uses 6 groups of 8 — and 8 × 6 and 6 × 8 are both 48.
