Q1.
Let us Create — Use one coastal item to create a fun decor object like a photo frame, a necklace, a painted pebble, a mini basket or a sand art jar. Add your own creative twist and display your work in the class! You can use any other locally available materials to create the decor items.
Answer

This is a making activity. Follow these steps.

  1. Pick one coastal item — a sea shell, a smooth pebble, clean dry sand, or a small piece of driftwood. If you do not live near the sea, use something from your own area: seeds, dry leaves, twigs, old buttons or bangles.
  2. Wash it, dry it and lay it on a newspaper.
  3. Choose one object to make: a photo frame, a necklace, a painted pebble, a mini basket or a sand art jar.
  4. Stick, thread or paint with the help of an adult. Let the glue and paint dry fully.
  5. Write a small card with your name and what you used. Put your work on the class display table.

Sample answer — a shell photo frame:

  • I cut a square frame out of thick cardboard.
  • I glued eight sea shells all around it, big ones at the corners and small ones in between.
  • I painted the cardboard sea-blue and let it dry.
  • I fixed my school photo inside and wrote “Puri Beach” on the back.
What this teaches: every region gives its people different things to work with. On the coast people make shell crafts, in the desert they make bandhini cloth, and in the mountains people weave bamboo baskets. The land decides the craft.
Tip: pick up only shells that are already lying empty on the sand. Never take a shell that still has a living creature inside it.
