Face the rising Sun and you have found east. The Sun comes up in the east every morning. Stand facing it. Now your left hand points north , your right hand points south , and your back is towards west . These four are called the cardinal directions — the four main directions. Say them in order as you turn: N, E, S, W. Every map has a direction arrow. It is a small sign in a corner with N, E, S and W on it (in the Hindi book: उ., पू., द., प.).
