A prism has two matching flat ends joined by rectangles; a pyramid has one base and triangles that meet at a single top point. Faces are the flat surfaces, edges are the lines where two faces meet, and corners are the points where edges meet. For every solid in this chapter, F + V – E = 2. A net is a solid opened out flat. Folding the net along its dotted lines gives the solid back. Two lines meeting at a point make an angle . An angle smaller than a right angle is acute ; one bigger is obtuse . A triangle is rigid — pushing a side does not change it. A rectangle, a square and a pentagon all lean over when pushed. In a circle every point of the border is the same distance from the centre. The diameter is double the radius . A shape has as many angles as it has sides .
